Tsarnaev family received $100,000 in welfare, food stamps and other benefits

This the story of an immigrant family intent on biting the hand that feeds them. When we have the immigration discussion, it is certainly true that a lot of people who hate America have been given an inordinate amount of incentive to live off her teat while fomenting unrest and dissatisfaction.
However, the more interesting thing to me is the commentary by Arthur Brooks of the American Enterprise Institute, who claims that the death of free enterprise — the ability to earn one’s own success –and the rise of wealth redistribution has actually made most people much less happy. This is because it shifts the focus from reward for effort to the amount of redistribution, which is never enough to satisfy lower incomes, yet too much for most smaller enterprises to sustain. It is interesting to listen to some of Mr. Brooks’ other arguments, which speak of the unfairness of the American free enterprise system, not because free enterprise doesn’t make people happy, but because too many fat cats are regulating free enterprise so that only the elite qualify to engage in it.

The Tsarnaev family, including the suspected terrorists and their parents, benefited from more than $100,000 in taxpayer-funded assistance — a bonanza ranging from cash and food stamps to Section 8 housing from 2002 to 2012, the Herald has learned.

“The breadth of the benefits the family was receiving was stunning,” said a person with knowledge of documents handed over to a legislative committee today.

The state has handed over more than 500 documents to the 11-member House Post Audit and Oversight Committee, which today met for the first time and plans to call in officials from the Department of Transitional Assistance to testify.
